As we all know, there are social norms in any civil society. Some of those norms are unnecessary and simply traditional, while others are in place for a reason. One of the necessary norms involves the responsibility to give innocuous answers to strangers when they say idiotic things that have no effect on your life. If one engages a stranger negatively in a situation like this, no one wins and both parties walk away worse off as a result. An innocuous answer is neutral for both parties.

With all of that said, sometimes a guy just needs to vent. So that's what this segment will be - my vent for all the idiotic things random strangers say to me. I call it "What I should have said."

Woman behind me in line at the coffee shop:  They used to have free Colombian coffee here. Years ago they did, no longer I guess. do you know?

What I said: No, I don't know.

What I should have said: What the hell are you talking about lady? This is coffee shop, which by definition means they need to sell coffee to stay in business and hopefully turn a profit. Unless this was a one-day promotion you're talking about, coffee shops don't give away coffee. That's why they're called coffee shops and not free coffee rooms.  Do you have any more insightful questions for me? I would love to follow you around all day, listen to all of the inane, idiotic comments you make to people, and just laugh. Laugh at you, that is, not with you.

Whew. Feel better already.
